Hammer Dulcimer Workshops with Lisa Warburton
IMPORTANT NOTE: Instruments will be provided!
Hammer Dulcimer Workshops
Led by Lisa Warburton from The English Dulcimer Duo (and Malthouse Passage). Come and have a go on this unique instrument (instruments provided by Nonsuch Dulcimer Club). For the complete novice, or if you already play. The hammer dulcimer has roots that go back over 1,500 years, and it has relatives across the globe. It can sound ethereal and beautiful, but also rock in a session!
Lisa has been hammering away on dulcimer since 1980, cutting her teeth in Irish, Welsh, and later, English pub sessions. She’s also a founder member of numerous concert and ceilidh bands, including the Johnny Spangles Allstars (with Dave Young, Ed Rennie), Frankie Goes to a Ceilidh (with Dave Young, Paul James, Andy Johnston), Malthouse Passage, Wompsters (with Muff Lucas) and the Irish group, Blarney Stone (with Andy McLauchlin). Lisa is currently performing with Sue Harris in The English Dulcimer Duo. As a trained teacher, she also teaches hammered dulcimer to a wide range of players. Lisa has performed at numerous UK and European festivals, has been artistic director of a festival for 10 years, worked for the internationally acclaimed fRoots magazine and has been commissioned to create and perform music for a Channel 4 documentary. Back in the 1980s, she was involved in the inaugural meetings to encourage and promote World Music in the UK (as the genera became to be known). Lisa is an active member of the UK’s Nonsuch dulcimer organisation, and she has become one of the UK’s leading hammer dulcimer players.
